Just after 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Dec. 24, players across several games hit the same problem at once — failed logins, matchmaking that won’t start, and repeated timeouts. It didn’t take long before “is Fortnite down” and “epic games down” started trending.
Epic’s status page listed an active login incident affecting Fortnite, Rocket League, Fall Guys, and Epic Online Services. Around the same time, AWS’s service health page showed an active event in us-east-1, and outage trackers quickly filled up with “AWS down” reports.
On the player side, the symptoms look similar across games. Fortnite players report login failures and “servers not responding” messages. Rocket League players say they can’t get past the login screen or join matches (rocket league down is the phrase showing up everywhere). And ARC Raiders players are seeing ARC Raiders network timeout issues — including the ART00004 error — which is why “arc raiders down?” and “arc raiders server status” searches spiked at the same time.
If you’re trying to troubleshoot, don’t overthink it. Start by checking Epic Games status (that’s usually the quickest confirmation for Fortnite, Rocket League, and EOS issues). If Epic is still showing an incident, it’s mostly a waiting game. If only ARC Raiders is failing, check Embark’s official updates and server status; a single restart is worth trying, but repeatedly hammering “retry” usually doesn’t help when timeouts are widespread.
As for whether this is definitely an AWS outage: there’s no official statement tying every game problem directly to AWS yet. But the timing is why players are connecting the dots — an AWS regional event showing up alongside a multi-title Epic login incident can make outages feel “global” from the outside, even when different systems are failing in parallel.
